SUCCESSFACTORS DATA MIGRATION - HOW TO OPEN A CSV FILE IN EXCEL AND RETAIN LEADING ZEROS

During the data migration process extracting data from SuccessFactors can be a complex task.

One of the most common questions i am asked is how to retain leading zeros on excel files once extracted from the SuccessFactors system. See below step by step instructions on how to do so:

1. Open Excel, click on the data tab and select 'from text'

2. Select CSV file that contains the data required and click on 'get data'

3. Once the text wizard pops up select 'delimited' then click on 'next'.

4. Check the 'comma' box as the delimiters, then click on the 'next' button.

5. Click on the User ID column, or the column which contains the leading zeros. Click on 'text' then select 'finish'.

6. Select the cell where you wish the data to appear and click on 'ok'.

7. Admire the your leading zeros!
